Author Biography
Jimmy Knight
The Gospel in 99 Words
Jimmy Knight has always considered evangelism to be his primary calling and vocation. When he was ordained specifically to the ministry of evangelism in 1979, it was an unusual designation, most preachers being simply ordained to the gospel ministry and most expecting to pastor, or prepare to pastor, a church.
Knight is a native of Laurel, Mississippi, and still, resides in the Jones County community which has been his lifelong home base. Through 79 years of active evangelism ministry, and a lifetime of studying the Bible, he came to recognize the importance of clearly understanding the words that are used to present the gospel (the “good news”) of Jesus Christ.

After physical disability ended his years of traveling to share the gospel, he realized that a better understanding of the individual words of the gospel could benefit non-believers encountering the Christian faith, as well as Christians at every stage of their spiritual growth. He selected 99 words to define, illustrate, and illuminate through the pages of his book, The Gospel in 99 Words, first published in 2013.
During his traveling ministry, he preached (and often sang as well) in 26 states and eight countries outside the U.S. He also led more than 50 teams of volunteers to help build church buildings and work in outreach ministries. Most of the volunteers came from churches where he had preached.
He is a graduate of William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Clarke Memorial College, which was previously located in Newton, Mississippi. He also attended Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, and studied in the graduate program at Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia.
Knight and his wife, Alane, have one daughter, a son-in-law, and three grandchildren, who live in Alabama.
